Here’s something exciting — we’ve been working with SHERMAN’S LAGOON cartoonist, Jim Toomey to create some Apple iBooks of his comics. It’s just a toe in the ebook pond, but we may want to do more of these. It’s a great way to open up a deeper look at the archives, and it’s broken into small batches so a reader can sample as they like.

The books are displayed by popularity, but if you want to start at the beginning, click here for the first book. Just click the “View in iTunes” link to go to the purchase page.
You can also find it on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch by opening the iBookstore and searching for “Sherman’s Lagoon” or “Jim Toomey.”
Remember to leave Jim a nice rating and/or review!
What other comics — current or vintage — would you like to see in eBook form? Do you want to see your modern favorites’ early beginnings, or some turn-of-the century nostalgia? Leave some notes in the comments.
All of them!
I like that phrase “early beginnings”. Having followed strip reprints through Ed Aprill, Woody
Gelman, Fantagraphics and NBM, I found starting at Day One was best. For instance, in the first volume of NBM’s WASH TUBBS, one can see that the young Roy Crane slowly began to realize that gag-a-day was a trap, and the strip took on an inspired energy once he had Wash hit the road in continuing adventures. Crane’s struggle to find his way makes volume one as fascinating as his later productive peaks.

Congrats to Jim Toomey on his new itunes books, and also for his 2 minute video about saving mangrove swamps. We are kindred spirits! I’m in a contest to raise awareness about climate change – see link , and my 8/6 comic for Six Chix is about coastal development.
Sorry – that link didn’t come through. It is the Union of Concerned Scientists who are sponsoring the contest.
