Here’s a treat. Years ago, we commissioned the great Terry Peterson to insert popular King Features comics characters into classic painted masterpieces. Here are three gems – this is a pretty easy-to-identify batch, but can you guys name the great work each of these are based on? I’ll post more of these in the future – maybe some that are a bit more challenging. Enjoy!

That’s American Gothic by Grant Wood, Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci and “Sunday Afternoon on Grande Jatte Island” by Georges Seurat.
Clever to put the Dagwood sandwich on the pitchfork.
Back in the 1960s I met Al Swiller, a gag cartoonist who did color magazine cartoons about famous painters in their art styles. For Van Gogh, he showed a prostitute opening a gift box with a bloody ear and saying, “That’s the third one this month.”
Yikes! I bet Lisa’s husband is also moanin’!
These are really fun — and beautifully done. I definitely want to see more!
